GP22 Evaluation-Kit
The term time-to-digital converter is used when talking about time interval measurements in the range of 1 nanosecond down to the picosecond range. The first TDCs have been developed for scientific and research purposes. They have been realized as a combination of time-to-analog (TAC) and analog-to-digital (ADC) converter. A sophisticated design of the TAC together with limitations to update rate or multihit capability make these solutions inattractive for industrial applications.
Integrated digital TDCs
Thanks to modern CMOS-technology it is possible to integrate fully digital time-to-digital converters into a single chip. The high precision of the time measurement - down to 14 ps - in combination with the large dynamic range (up to 30 Bit), the high stability over temperature and supply voltage and the possibilty of a low cost production thanks to the CMOS technology make them the first choice for industrial applications.

UFC - Ultrasonic Flow Converters
TDC-GP30 - System integrated solution for ultrasonic based heat-, water-, and gas meters and industrial flow meters
Ultrasonic flow meters for heat, water and gas get more and more popular. From the beginning acam TDC products successfully solved the time-of-flight measurement task in those applications. With the UFC family acam provides solutions that extend the pure time measurement functionality. The flow measurement part of the electronics can be designed in a very compact manner as the main elements of the analog frontend like comparator and temperature measurement are already integrated into the UFC.

Advantages:
- Standard MCU can operate ultrasonic or mechanical systems.
- Uniform software of MCU can operate ultrasonic as well as mechanical systems.

- Power consumption is mainly controlled by GP30. Therefore it is easy to meet ultra-low power requirements for MCU.

PicoStrain - Stands for an innovative digital concept to measure resistance

Measuring strain gages is one of the big challenges for sensor technology, especially the weighing industry. Due to the small excitation of the strain gages on a load cell of only 0.2 % (2000 ppm) full scale, and due to the high resolution of 16 Bit and more, the resistors must be measured with a precision deeply in the ppb range. Reasonably, this can only be done measuring the ratio of the resistors.
Here the ® measuring principle is breaking new grounds compared to A/D converters. The ratio of the resistors is ascribed to a time interval measurement, not to a voltage difference like in Wheatstone bridges. The sensor's resistors together with a capacitor act as low-pass filters. The capacitor, charged to Vcc, is discharged through the sensor's resistors. The discharge time to trigger level (selectable) is precisely measured by a TDC (Time-to-Digital Converter).
The ® integrated circuits are realized without any analog component. Again, acam uses its TDC technology to set new standards in circuit design.
